I began volunteering in dog rescue in December of 2013 after following Buddy's story. Buddy was a chained dog in Joggins, Nova Scotia who was tethered and abandoned for 6 years. His story is very heartbreaking and touched me in a profound way. I knew at that time, I needed to help be a part of the change I wanted to see when it comes to animal protection laws. Myself and a group of other dedicated dog loving individuals organized the Anti-Tether March that was held at Grand Parade Square on February 6th, 2014. This March was an unprecedented success in our Province as it was held simultaneously with other towns across the Province and attended by local MLAs and the Minister of Agriculture. The new regulations which recently came into effect in our Province provide much better protection for our companion animals and I am very glad to have been a part of that movement. We still have a long way to go when it comes to education and protection for those who have no voice but we are on the right track. I am happy to be a volunteer member of Good Bones Dog rescue as this group is an all breed rescue and will not turn away chained dogs, if they are in a position to help, and for me that is where my heart lies - the plight of the chained dogs!

I'm the mom of two amazing teenaged kids and an adorable fur baby. I'm an avid animal lover who always had pets, especially dogs, as part of my family throughout my life. Several years back I had to sadly have one of my fur babies euthanized which created a hole in my heart and a huge emptiness I can't explain. I decided I wanted to adopt a dog from a rescue to give him/her a forever home. I started the search for our new family member and came across Sheila's story, a tiny minature pincher who was frightened, confused, withdrawn, who wanted nothing more than to feel loved and protected. I have, since that day, decided to be an advocate for the animals, their voice to break their silence. I feel privileged and honored to volunteer my free time with Good Bones Dog Rescue, assisting where ever needed with such an amazing and dedicated group of individuals who have the dog's best interests at heart! There is 'NO' greater feeling than helping an animal in need who is unable to speak for it's self. I am and will always be, their voice!

I got into rescue for the love of dogs. If I can make the difference in helping save a life then I want to just that. It is a strong passion that I have and it’s very near to my heart. Dogs are wonderful creatures and I am lucky to have had several in my life and I want other people to experience dog love, cause there’s nothing like it!!
